COVID-19
The HHSD is following the recommendations from the Montgomery County Office of Public Health and the Centers for Disease Control. Below are their recommendations:
People with COVID-19 have had a wide range of symptoms reported – ranging from mild symptoms to severe illness. Symptoms may appear 2-14 days after exposure to the virus. Anyone can have mild to severe symptoms.
Possible symptoms include:
Fever or chills
Cough
Shortness of breath or difficulty breathing
Fatigue
Muscle or body aches
Headache
New loss of taste or smell
Sore throat
Congestion or runny nose
Nausea or vomiting
Diarrhea
When to Get Tested for COVID-19
Key times to get tested:
If you have symptoms, test immediately.
If you were exposed to COVID-19 and do not have symptoms, wait at least 5 full days after your exposure before testing. If you test too early, you may be more likely to get an inaccurate result.
Interpreting Your Results
If Your COVID-19 Test is
Positive
Any positive COVID-19 test means the virus was detected and you have an infection.
Isolate for 5 days. Day one is the first day after symptoms started. Wear a high-quality mask for 10 days to protect others from getting infected..
Tell people you had recent contact with that they may have been exposed.
If Your COVID-19 Test is
Negative
A negative COVID-19 test means the test did not detect the virus, but this doesn’t rule out that you could have an infection.
If you have symptoms:
You may have COVID-19, but may have been tested before the virus was detectable, or you may have another illness. Repeat the test in 48 hours.
If you do not have symptoms, but were exposed to the virus that causes COVID-19, you should continue to take recommended steps after exposure, such as monitoring for symptoms, testing on day 5 and wearing a mask for 10 days.
If you do not have symptoms and you have not been exposed to the virus that causes COVID-19, you may return to normal activities.
